Designing My Triathlon Cave

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

I love triathlon ecause of how complex it is and it always keeps me looking to improve, but with that complexity, comes a LOT of random gear. A lot of gear that my non-triathlete girlfriend has to hurdle over our constantly in our tiny apartment.

But there is good news!

We just signed a lease at a MUCH bigger apartment about a mile away. There is a nice little yard for a garden and some BBQing, but most importantly Sam has agreed to give me my own room to store both my bikes, trainer and other random gear.  That is right, my very own man/tri cave!

I already bought a sweet new leather couch and an antique trunk circa 1900, but I need your help internet people. Help me out to plan out my tri cave!

I’ve already got the couch, my signed Lance jersey and some uber-manly storage, and am planning on having a corner for my yoga mat and a bike permanently set up on the trainer but what else do I need?

  • A TV and DVD player for spinnervals?
  • Mini-fridge filled with gatorate, Infinit and recovery drinks? (Soy milk and beer, depending on how hard the workout was.)
  • A wall covered in race numbers?

Help me out Internet people. What am I missing here?

I love the idea of the wall covered in race numbers. I’m thinking of doing that in a little spot in my studio at home.

How about a big picture on the wall of some really inspiring start of an IM or something??

so when i finally get my 2nd bedroom/training room ready (it’s been a year, i need to get my act together) – i definitely plan to put race pictures/posters on the wall. along with my numerous medals (none) – i threw away my race numbers, but that is a great great great idea.

and a fridge for gatorade and chocolate milk is a super idea too.

I have man/tri cave envy! I have a 4 bedroom house and still no man/tri cave… what’s up with that! Maybe I can convince one of my three children to give up their bedroom or I could just clean the basement… hmmm the wheels are turning!

every man cave needs surround sound! and some weights. and a place to store all your workout clothes. oh, and one of those endless, infinity swim pools with a mirror on the bottom so you can watch your form. and a flat screen to hook up the garmin, so you can see your HR on the big screen while on the trainer.
