For anyone paying attention to my training log, June Sucked!
There I said it. What ‘cha gunna do ’bout it?
Granted half of it was either tapering for or recovering from Rev3, but the rest of it was a disaster. I turned into a lazy excuse for a triathlete.

Mentally, I just haven’t been in the game. My mind has been in “half iron training mode” solid since October or November of last year and I think I was mentally drained. The good thing is that despite a little loss in fitness, I’m fully refreshed and back in it and pumped to start boosting up the training again for the Timberman 70.3.
I did a few short runs early this week to stretch out some tight legs and now I’m ready to tear it up.
Let’s do this!

I did it.
I slapped down a my credit card on a brand new carbon beauty also known as the Cervelo P2.

I was definitely leaning towards just about anything but a Cervelo when I started looking, but ended up falling in love with it at the end. Cervelo riders always seem to remind me (and a lot of other people) of the cocky jerks on SlowTwitch.com and I had no strong desire to join that club, no matter how sexy their bikes are.
The Scott Plasma was a really great ride and the cheapest, but I immediately wanted to upgrade some of the components. The integrated seat post was really cool, but I can’t imagine that it helps the resale value. Not a big complaint since I’m planning on keeping it for a few seasons at least, but still something worth thinking about.
The Felt B12 was also dead sexy, had amazing components and wheels and was a super smooth ride. But it was probably a little more bike than I needed and just outside of my price range. If price didn’t matter, it definitely would have been a major contender.
It was the complete goldilocks situation. One was too hot. One was too cool. One was just right, so despite my “anything but cervelo” focus, I landed right back where I started and I love it. It also meant that I got to buy it from tri team’s bike shop, which is a nice bonus. I take good care of them. They take good care of me. Belmont Wheelworks rocks!
I pick her up next week for a fit and can’t wait to put her through the paces! I still need to come up with a name. My initial thought is “Blue Steel” a la Zoolander, just because of the colors, but I do like naming bikes after women. I may have to get to know her better first, but I’m open to suggestions.

Test riding sweet new triathlon bikes is is a wicked fun way to waste an entire day. My road bike is world’s different than any of the tri bikes I’m looking at, so comparing them is useless. I jumped on as many bikes as I could on Friday to compare them to each other and make the right decision.
They were all really different, but they all have one thing in common. SO much fun to ride!

Then I closed out July 4th with a day at the Red Sox game with my kick-ass friends. (more…)
