Brooks Joins the Family
Thursday, September 3rd, 2009
While some of you have already heard, I got a new sponsor to help me out for my next race!
Next Friday me and 5 friends will be doing Ragnar New England. It is a 180-mile running relay race from New Haven, Conn. to Boston that starts next Friday and goes all the way through the night until Saturday afternoon.
You can see the full “official announcement” press release here. Yeah, we are that cool.
I used to be very “blah” about sponsors and selling out, but I’ve been lucky that all the companies that I’ve worked with in my athletic adventures have been more like a group of friends and family than business partners. I’m psyched to have Brooks join in on the fun!
In exchange for blogging and tweeting about the race and reviewing some new gear that is just coming out, Brooks hooked us up with some sweet swag! Shoes, multiple pairs of shorts, shirts, jackets, hats, everything! Nothing like Christmas in the middle of summer, eh?
Our official name is “@brooksrunning’s 5 guys, 1 girl, 140 characters” (for the max length of the tweets we will be posting to the web during the race. I’ll have my clip camera long for the ride too, so I’m expecting some pretty hilarious video as we slowly get exhausted and sleep deprived from the 24-hour race. It will be run, eat, sleep, drive, repeat all the way to the finish line.
Local tri-blogger and running maniac “Mango Runner” will be our faithful team captain.
Here is the rest of our team’s twitter accounts if you want to follow along in all the ridiculousness that is bound to ensue next Friday and Saturday.
- Justin Manganaro – @mangorunner
- Chris Russell – @cyktrussell
- Courtney Renaud – @thatrunnerchick
- Greg Watson – @g_watty
- Josh Maio – @speedysasquatch
And our faithful sponsor, Penelope at Brooks, is on twitter too. Check out her account for some running goodness too. http://twitter.com/brooksrunning
Most teams will have a whole lot more runners than us, but since we only have six, we have been dubbed an “ultra” team since we will be doing more than a marathon between each of our three legs. In total, each of us will run between 26 and 38 miles.
Here is me rocking my full-on Brooks outfit after a great 9.5 mile tempo run last night. I’ll post a full review of all the gear later on.

I’m not exactly sure what the hell I’m doing in this pose. I look like a drunk Popeye, but I thought it was funny so decided to throw it up here anyway.
