Ironman Training Starts Today
Saturday, January 2nd, 2010
It is official. I’m making the transition from just “working out” to actually training for Rev3 Cedar Point.
The last month or so has been pretty lame workout wise. I’ve only been doing about 3 hours of workouts per week, but with the holidays and wanting to make sure that I don’t burn out before I get to the ironman. I was a little burnt out for Timberman this August when I started hard-core training in November. Looking back at my training log from the same time last year, I was a lot fitter and was putting in a lot more hours, but I don’t think that that is a bad thing that I’m already compared to my 2009 fitness.
I want to make sure that the burnout doesn’t happen again, so I’m hoping a January instead of November start does the trick.
Day 1 started off with a 90 minute trainer ride, with some short 2-3 minute all out efforts towards the end to fatigue the legs a little for a 20 minute brick run. Another snow storm was rolling through Boston, so I had the chance to lay some fresh tracks out in a few inches of fluffy snow. Tons ‘o fun! I’ve got a strength training session planned for later tonight too.
To keep me motivated during what will inevitably become a ton of trainer riding this season, I’ve decided to take after Bree Wee and take some company with me on my rides. She has her hula girl…
… and now I have my moose!
Happy training everyone.

Will likely be doing the half there myself. Happy Training!
Good luck with your training… I'm still working out my plan for 2010. I know one thing… no Ironman for me… not this year!
Woo-hoo…I love the “start”.
Sweet. Sweet sweet sweet! That's gonna be an awesome race.
Good idea on starting your training a little later. Starting in November would be almost a full year of training. Even for Iron, I wouldn't start any training earlier than the first of the year.
